Corrugated hoses are widely used in various industries and household settings due to their flexibility and durability. However, incorrect installation and improper maintenance can lead to leaks, reduced performance, and even safety hazards. This guide will walk you through the proper procedures for installing and maintaining corrugated hoses.
Installation

Step 1: Select the Right Hose
Before starting the installation, it's crucial to choose the appropriate corrugated hose. Consider the application for which you'll be using the hose. For example, if it's for a plumbing system, you need to select a hose that can withstand the water pressure and is compatible with the type of water (such as potable water or wastewater). Check the hose's specifications, including its diameter, length, pressure rating, and the material it's made of. Different materials like rubber, stainless steel, or plastic have varying chemical resistances and temperature tolerances.

Step 2: Prepare the Installation Area
Clear the area where you'll be installing the hose. Remove any debris, sharp objects, or obstacles that could damage the hose during installation or while it's in use. Ensure that the connection points are clean and free of rust or dirt. If necessary, use a wire brush or a degreaser to clean the surfaces.

Step 3: Connect the Hose
There are different types of connections for corrugated hoses. For threaded connections, apply a suitable thread - sealing compound to the threads of the hose and the fitting. This helps prevent leaks. Then, carefully thread the hose onto the fitting, turning it clockwise until it's hand - tight. Use a wrench to give it a final, gentle tightening, but be careful not to overtighten as it may damage the threads.
For compression - type fittings, place the compression nut and ferrule onto the hose first. Insert the hose into the fitting, making sure it's fully seated. Tighten the compression nut using a wrench, gradually and evenly. This compresses the ferrule onto the hose, creating a tight seal.

Step 4: Route the Hose
When routing the corrugated hose, avoid sharp bends. A sharp bend can restrict the flow inside the hose and also cause stress on the hose walls, potentially leading to cracks over time. The minimum bend radius should be according to the manufacturer's recommendations. If the hose needs to go around an obstacle, use a smooth, gentle curve. Also, keep the hose away from heat sources, as high temperatures can degrade the hose material.
